Bucio Posted January 19, 2021 Share Posted January 19, 2021 Hello! Iv had this tank set up for about a month its my 1st planted tank and iv tries to use everything correctly. Can someone identify this? Iv googled it but im not able to determine the type of algae it is. You can see it growing on the top of the wood. It grew ontop of javamoss i had glued there. Brandy Posted January 19, 2021 Share Posted January 19, 2021 I have heard this called "hair algae" and "filimentous diatom algae" and so on. The good news is many fish love to eat it, including guppies, otocinclus, and many other livebearers. The other good news is that it generally can be manually removed and eventually disappears on its own. Personally I would go with a cheap guppy unless you had long term plans to put something else in there (ie otocinclus). 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
