Hugo officially has some freinds. Well future freinds, they have to go through quarintine for the next 3-4 weeks. I set up the QT tank yesterday and went shopping today. I went to the LFS today but they didn't have any of the neon tetras I was looking for, so I went to the local petsmart. They LOTS there. I saw a neon tetra in the tank that looks like had the mouth fungus the neon tetras are brutal for. So I bought some API Pimafix just in case it shows up in any of my neons. I bought 5 Neon Tetras. On April 23ish I will let the neons swim with Hugo.

I am hoping with in the 3-4 weeks Hugos fins will have been healed up, if not then the neons will have a extended QT until Hugos fins are better.

I can see some new growth on Hugos finns too, HORRAY!!!

I couldn't get a clear shot of Hugo, he couldn't stop moving. I guess he was excited for his freinds to come out of QT.

I couldn't get a clear shot of the neons:

I am so happy for you and Hugo!  Looking forward to seeing the tank become a thriving community habitat!😊

Well that didn't last long...

3 of the neon tetras are dead. I went to go check on them, and one was dead and the other two were struggiling. I imediatly checked my water parameters, all in check. I use the tetra strips, so they dont test for amonia, I thought that  might have been the problem. So I did a immediate waterchange, The two that were struggling, I think have died. But the other two are completley fine. Because Petsmart does a 2 week warirnty, I will probably go back and get my money back, then purchase some more at my lfs when they have more in stock.

Edit: There all dead 😞. I am going to get my refund then I will make the trip to the LFS.

How aggravating!  Poor fish.  Who knows what they have been through.  I love it when fish stores have a quarantine period where at least they make sure that they are stable before they sell them.  Wish I was closer to Aquarium Coop!!

My LFS has a one week QT, thats one of the reasons why I love supporting them. But i got these from a petsmart because the lfs didnt have any instock.

Well I returned the neon tetras (because they died) and got a 100% refund. Once my LFS has the neon tetras are back instock at my lfs, I plan to make a trip up there.

I did a bit of late night matneince. I didnt do a waterchange or clean the glass (I lost my algae scruber) but I did get all the algae off the plants, fixed the betta hamock and inserated some root tabs for the sword so that It can grow monsterous sooner. So far no die back yet, I think I'm out of the woods!

I am trying this new food. its a homemade flake food made by my lfs. Hugo doesnt seem interested, it doesnt seem like he knows its food. I'm gonna try and soak it in garlic, hopefully that helps.

Hugos fins having been growing dramaticilly, you can just see the growth on his fins! I cant wait till he has his full halfmoon back!

The Petsmart that I went to return the tetras were legally not allowed to sell fish. Not because of how they treat them but because of something else.... I wonderd if it was because of the Moss Balls they were selling. The Zebra Mussels have recentley been detected in my province. Hopefully soon after this situation ends I can get my hands on some moss balls, I've been wanting them for a while now.

Today was moving day!

Hugo is down stairs in the basement where my brother will be QTing for the next two weeks, so I thought I would move him  upstairs. Because theres no way I'm gonna have two weeks without seeing hugo.

Because of Hugos fins, I wasnt going to catch him with a net. So instead I got a cup, and picked him up with it. This will be way better for him fins. It was really easy catching him, all I did was act like my finger was food, and then caught him:

image.png.9b008c25c8ef91f37cc9c02e418494c2.png

I then drained the tank and put the filter media into the bucket

I then brought the tank upstairs, and boy was that tank heavier then what I thought it was going to be. I forgot about the weight of the substrate.

But...

When moving the tank upstaird and the water going splish, splosh the plants got uprooted. And I found a Baby Hygrophillia! How awesome is that!

I then filled it back up, and planted the plants again.

I'm also considering moving the neon tetras in my community tank to Hugos Tank, temporarily. The angels in the community tank have been taking a snack on them every so often. I started with 10, now I have 4. I'll take the cardinals down to the LFS sometimes soon, but in the meantime Hugo might make some freinds.

I'm mostly excited about the hygrophillia runner! I haven't much luck with plants in the past, so to see this finally happend is AWESOME!

Hugo was in my office space, so I would hangout with him when I was on the forum, etc. He's now in my bedroom, so we'll see how much attention he gets.

Of course not, I can't blame you. Hugo is such as character. 😊 Congrats on the new hygrophilia! Seems like the tank is starting to go in the right direction. 👍

Hooray Hugo!!!  And, hoorayyyyy plants!!!  Please keep us updated on how Hugo does with the tetras!  I bet he'll do great!!

I like to think that Spritz is doing well with the shrimp...buuuuut I've seen two molts this week...which makes me wonder if they're stressed out. 🤷‍♀️

Had a plant shipment arrive today! Some were for the community tank, and other were for Hugo.

All the plants arrived AMAZING, except for an anubius, it came with rhizome rot. I've heard that once one anubias has rhizome rot, every anubias will likely have it so I decided not to plant it but to float in a bucket till I get further instructions from the seller.

I also bought 50 root tabs for only $11! What a STEAL, I really hope they work well.

Plants for hugos tank

  • Hygrophillia Siamensis
  • Anubius nanna paxing (compact)

I then went to the fish store and then see a peice of Drift wood I fell in LOVE with. But the best part is that there wasn't any price tag, so they gave it to me for only $10 CAD ($7.97 USD). So natrually I took it home! On the way home I was wondering if I should save it for a future scape or use it in one of my pre-exsisting tanks. I figured Hugos tank could use a re-scape, and with the new plants it was the perfect time to do so!

So... RESCAPE TIME!!!

It may not look good now, but wait till the wood has sunk! Give it a few days, and it will look PHENOMANAL!!! I will post pictures once the wood has sank. Hugo seems to like it too, he has been lying on it ALL DAY!

image.png.f08cb8debe77be0d1561ff8535049d91.png

image.png.3e9820e0b5f745b928012ada4b3c42c6.png

I feel like I should remove the betta hamock, he doesnt use it much and seems to like the wood more!

I only want some Buce to glue onto the wood, then the scape will be final!

Now Lets talk tank mates...

After seeing @Catfish_Lover_Jane put Pygmy Corycats in their betta tank, I have seriously been thinking of doing the same. Theres sooo many tankmates I wanna try with Hugo, but I feel like Pygmy Corys or Neon Tetras will be first!

But in the mean time I may move the mystery snail in my community tank back into hugos tank. I never see it in the community tank.

Edit: The Supplier of the Plants just agreed to refund the anubias

The wood finally sank!

Hugo also LOVES the wood, I was taking it out to readjust the anubias and he was not HAVING IT! "Thats my wood hooman, back off"! So I fed him and he was all happy after.

Thankyou @Streetwise I readjusted the anubias and it looks WAYYY better!

I just cant wait to get my hands on some Buce!

I will be going to my LFS soon where I'll be looking for different fish for my community tank. As well as some Buce, and some Freinds for Hugo, still dont know what I want.

Also I relize that I forgot to update you all on Hugos Fins.

Not any dramatic growth, but were getting back to his full moon week by week.

This was him 2 weeks ago:

I've been doing a lot of updates on this thread, one yesterday, one the day beofore that and now today. Perhaps its just because a lot of things have been happening.

Yesterday one of my angelfish died of a parasitic infection so I decided to head up to the LFS and pickup an angelfish I fell in love with a few days ago. I didn't pickup it before because I thought I didn't have enough room. Well I went, but the angelfish had already sold. So Instead I picked up some freinds for Hugo. Some Neon Tetras.

image.png.63a50cccb6a11a2b1727a3622f251266.png

And a full tank shot:

image.png.e1e614a4a3aac4bb8e246e4c79100db6.png

I was a little nervous introducing the neon tetras with Hugo, but Hugo doesn't even seem to notice them. When I placed there bag by his tank to go get a bucket, I came back to him just sitting and staring at the neons🤣
