For fiddler crabs, they don't need brackish water. It is really up to you. One thing I CANNOT stress enough it to have a secure lid. You might be checking yourself and thinking you are fine but MAKE SURE! I have had fiddler crabs and African dwarf frogs (not in the same tank) and all of the climbed out of the tank and I found them on the other side of my house. Even if you have filter floss or duct tape covering spaces, it likely won't be enough. I don't want to rain on your enthusiasm because they are one of the most unique tank mates in the freshwater hobby and they were a gem to keep. If you have a secure lid and brackish or freshwater, You should be all set to go. If you want them to live life to the fullest, give them some way to get out of the water. They need air without it increases the chance for escape or death. This was my biggest mistake. Even if it is guppy grass or a big rock, you don't need a paludarium. I hope this helps! Enjoy your evening.

I am getting 2 fiddler crabs today from a person off craigslist, they have been kept in brackish for a year with 5 "feeder fish". I plan on creating a palladium for them. this thread was very helpful!
