Corycatfan Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 I am planning on painting my Fish Room. I am wondering how it will affect my fish and Fish Tanks. I m worried about my Air Pumps pulling in Air with Paint Fumes and dispersing it in my Tank water. Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated. Thanks ,Mike
lefty o Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 i would try and move the pumps out of the room. it may require buying a good length of air line tubing, but should be a small investment for the added safety margin. that, and i would ensure the tanks are well covered.
Corycatfan Posted December 27, 2020 Author Posted December 27, 2020 Thanks, that might work. I did not think of that.👍
AdamTill Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Latex “fumes” aren’t super toxic, but good advice above. Could run carbon temporarily if really worried
Alesha Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Can you open the windows at all? I think it would be helpful to get that fresh air into the room too...sort of dilute the fumes a bit.
Corycatfan Posted January 2, 2021 Author Posted January 2, 2021 Carbon is one idea i will use. Also i am going to wait until Spring when it is warmer out, and open Windows and put a box fan in the window to pull out the fumes. Thanks for the suggestions. Mike
KaitieG Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 You can also get low to no VOC paint, which really cuts down on the smell. I've used a couple different brands over the years--it tends to be in some of the pricier brand-name paints and are usually a "premium" option, but I've found that they tend to also have better coverage and therefore end up not costing more in the long run.
Corycatfan Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 Thanks, i did not know this. Sounds like this would certainly help. Thanks, Mike
FishyThoughts Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 Could run an air purifier as well. Some of those are pretty good.
