What did you get done today?

Did water changes on 29,29,120,5. Nothing exciting. Here are a couple of pictures of the 29's which are low-tech tanks. In the black 29 my 2 year old lily resprouted so soon it will be a mess. for some reason in the pictures the black 29 look a lot worse than in person. Also the stem plants in the back haven't really caught yet. It will eventually as at one time before i used furan-2 it was a forest but it seems to be taking its sweet time. t1.jpg.a557cfd3112e59e8271c3b3c6ed8179c.jpg

The white 29 has a lot of interesting kids if you can find them.

Moved some plants around in the new tank. Both my dwarf water lily bulbs showed no growth after three weeks and a rotation. They started growing what I think was beard algae and had a sour/rotten smell, so I pitched them 😕

On the bright side, maybe they were spoiling my water somewhat so hopefully it will fully balance now. My tiger lotus is doing well so there is still that. And it made room to move both "trees" I made next to each other in the corner. I'll be starting a new journal with pics soon

Did the usual tuesday hacking on the 40B. Most of it is under control but the green fuzzy stuff is starting to take over the tank. Guess i'll have to take an axe to it next water change. Also adjusted the wb of the light using @Mmiller2001 setting so pictures are a little nicer but still lots of glare; but adjusted angel to reduce glare:

and from the top:

and of course not pictured is a bag of cut plants thrown away....

We need an envy emoji! What fantastic plant growth!

Painted myself into a corner by purchasing two trios of livebearers from a local club sale. I now have more QT tanks than I have places to put them so had to set up an "emergency" table for today's catch.

Figuring out who can go where after QT is starting to feel kind of like this:p312500b_2x.jpg

Got the plant table finished. Haven't filled it up yet but my wife is working on it 🙂

I made the bottom what I'm calling a smuggler's shelf. Not screwed in so I can remove the boards, when our cats decide to boop toys and/or dead bugs  under there...

It looks great! Fantastic idea. I don't think she'll notice a culture, especially of you slip it into your new culture corner next to the aquarium. Out of site out of mind.

Topped off the ATO, added supplements, cleaned the sump's surface skimmer, and hopefully changed my last filter sock. Sump has two 4 inch holders in series so one is meant for mesh and the other for felt. The felt I replaced awhile ago with a fleece roller and found someone with the same sump who runs a roller in each and got it to work. Ordered the second and will get that in there later this week. Surgery coming up soon means no lifting/stretching/etc for up to 6 weeks. All of this should get me to the point where I can just top off the ATO, add pumps of additives, and add pellets during that whole time.

Did water changes on six FW tanks, cleaned socks in SW tank, was going to get a whole report for @Hobbit on the egg planters but got sidetracked by my partner in crime to make chorizo:

They'll be cured just in time for Christmas!

I just woke up hungry and now I want chorizo for breakfast?

Thanks. Now I am craving chorizo, huevos & papas🙄

Right?  I just ate and that chorizo still looks delicious!

On another note, I finally got my moss tied onto the wood in my 29 gallon.  It doesn’t look much different, yet, but give it a couple months and it should look pretty good.  I put Hooker’s moss (Physcomitrium hookeri) on the larger wood piece on the left, both tying larger areas and gluing smaller spots.

I used both Mini Weeping moss (AKA Java Spring, but I haven’t found a scientific name for this one) on the upper part of the right side wood piece and some Jade Lotus moss (Jungermannia truncata) on the lower right of the right piece.

I expected a lot of little pieces to come floating loose when I put the wood back in the tank, but I guess I got it tied down pretty good, because hardly any came loose.

I added some plants and moss to the 14 G - Anubias nana ‘Golden’ and A. barteri ‘Dark Angel’ to the big piece and a little of the Jade Lotus moss to the right side of the small wood piece in front that has the Buce. ‘Red Dagger’.

I’ve got a tissue culture of Crypt ‘Pink Flamingo’ coming that will mostly go directly in the 14 G since the ‘Pink Panther’ I started with all melted.  I probably rushed too fast with putting fresh out of the TC plants into a non-cycled tank before.

I got by $72.50 for all the fish. I sell wholesale prices, so my aim is just to soften the financial blow slightly from the hobby, not to make money.

Today, I turned the cash around, and got a new heater…

LOL, it's like a 10 foot paint job, if you get closer than 10 feet you can see all the flaws  🙂

I have such a hard time getting decent lumber, I have to do a lot of creative clamping/gluing and belt sanding. I do get a lot of satisfaction building stuff though, and it makes good use of my shop!

Today I moved to a new state (Massachusetts) to be near my daughter, and it's been a very long and difficult couple of months getting my house prepped and sold (closing is next week), and getting rid of lots of stuff that I couldn't afford to move (already costing me upwards of $5k for this move). Now I have to wait a few weeks for my stuff...

NOW on to the important part. Cosmo handled the move like a trooper in his little glass jar, and is now settled into his tank again. Gotta keep an eye on the water parameters, but I did keep his sponge filter on and in with the plants (and a lot of water leaked all over my dog and the back seat! 😨 but had no choice as his stand needed to also fit in the car). There was an awful lot of roadwork and bumpy roads and traffic. Poor Cos got pushed around quite a bit.

I still have to replant the crypts - left them floating so I could get him out of the bowl and into the tank to settle in.

My apartment apparently allows fish tanks (yay!) because there is a clause about mold prevention and they mention making sure it's dry "around fishtanks" in that clause.

Looking forward to being able to post on here more often again!

Received my first order from Dan’s Fish today.  Added a school of Dwarf Neon Rainbow Fish to the 125 gallon.  I have never had rainbow fish before.  They are lovely to watch.

Has anyone found a trick to lighting the tank to help show their side371C9717-0B80-43A2-8066-8C39F7A61369.jpeg.2f66f4da786a6eabd9a13174e428d20f.jpeg iridescence off a little more than the bare bones LED lighting that comes stock on hoods?

I feel your pain Maggie—having spent the last couple of months under too many deadlines and not having enough bodies to get everything done.  It is exhausting!!

I hope you can take a deep breath now and settle in your new home.  Kind of a new adventure with undiscovered possiblities, isn’t it?
