dorsalfin
Hi Everyone, So I have a 3ft aquarium that houses 9 Beckford pencilfish and a juvenile pair of Apistogramma Borellii. Everything was great whilst the pencilfish were young but since they've put on size the males have turned fairly aggressive towards each other(pinning up against each other and shaking) with the Borellii sometimes getting chased in the cross fire. Do I need to add more Pencilfish to spread this aggression out or is it a bad match with the Apistos and should I move on the Pencilfish?
FrozenFins
I would try other fish, not pencil fish. Are you tyring to breed these apistos? I would reccemond 6 Hatchetfish, to see if that slows down their aggressions with one another.
Paul
@dorsalfinthe Pencilfish pose no threat to the Apistos. Their mouths are too small to eat fry so you will be able to breed Apistos. I keep Pencilfish with Discus, Tetras, & Bosemani Rainbows with no problems. In fact they basically don’t bother with the other fish.
dorsalfin
Not actively trying to breed the Borellii just read they arent great on their own so I got a pair, There is coconut caves and leaf litter so maybe ill let them be and not stress over it. dorsalfin
Update: Found Borellii fry tonight. Beckford pencilfish seem to not be going for them at this stage. Nice little surprise. 🙂
