Think this tank is safe?

Picked up this 20g on craigslist the other day.  The guy told me it was brand new and it passed the eye test while I was double parked when I went to pick it up.  I guess I should've looked closer, it appears to be chipped on the corner.  The chip doesn't reach the inside of the tank, though, it's only on the outside corner, like something bumped into it.  Should I be worried about filling it with water?  Maybe only fill it half way and let it sit overnight to see if it leaks?

I can't tell if that's a chip or a glob of silicone.  If it were a larger tank I'd say be careful, do long-term testing. But as it is smaller, I'd just fill it up outside or another safe area for a few days or a week.

Feel the silicone inside and see if you feel any irregularities. Otherwise, I'd just set it up someplace outside or that would be safe if it got wet, fill with water and see. I've had tanks with chips on the edge on the outsode of the tank and held water for a long time.

more than likely it will hold water. this is a case where it is best to put it somewhere it wont hurt anything for a few days like the garage, or outside if you are in warm climate, fill it and let it sit. after a few days , you should have a reasonable idea if it will or wont leak.

Thanks everyone, unfortunately I'm in an apartment in jersey and it's supposed to get down to 34 ish the next couple nights.  Gonna call my LFS and see if they would store it with water for a couple nights for a small fee.

You could also test it in a bathtub, depending on the timing relative to your convenience.
