I'm in CT and looking for a Spotted Congo puffer - do you have any recommendations? Unfortunately there aren't really many consistent sources for them that I've ever seen. I'm hoping my breeding success will lead to more people trying though.
Steph’s Fish and Plants
Wow they’re adorable. And over 40 days now how exciting!! Congratulations
Jack.of.all.aquariums
Day 47! This morning while waiting for brine to hatch I believe I witnessed the largest baby eat a super tiny snail. I've noticed that the population of tiny snails was super low but have been assuming they just got bigger and I wasn't noticing. Maybe the babies have already turned into snail murderers.
Steph’s Fish and Plants
How exciting! If I’m remembering correctly they’re almost out of the woods time wise from what Preston said. I love how tiny they still are. Congrats on making it this far, I’m excited to see them continue to grow up
Jack.of.all.aquariums
Day 67. Nothing special to report other than all 10 are still doing well. I believe they have eaten most of the newly born snails now. They still are eating baby brine as well. Not big enough for bloodworms yet.
Pigeonduck
Just caught up with this. Well done with getting them so far. I hope that they're still growing well.
Jack.of.all.aquariums
The babies are doing well. Not really babies anymore. They are starting to eat bloodworms but I'm still feeding baby brine periodically. They have started to clear out larger and larger snails from the tank. I'll need to move them soon but don't really have anything set up for them. I'm tempted to move them in with the adults though.

H.K.Luterman
Their eyes always look so weird in photos. Cute little chubbers nonetheless!
Jack.of.all.aquariums
Move one juvenile into the tank with the adults. They are 104 days old at this point. 6 1

Derekthelegend
Do you know at what size you can see sexual dimorphism? My lfs got some 2.5 inch ones in and I might try my hand at this
Preston John
You can sex puffers from the same spawn reliably at 12-16 months. At 2.5" you are looking at at least a 24 month old puffer, but hard to tell with the wild ones until you have a month or two of heavy feedings.

I just got 2 wild caught puffers the other day and I wanted to see if they are a male female pair.

Steph’s Fish and Plants
It’s been quite a long time, was wondering if there’s been an update on how the now one year old puffs are doing? And if you’re working on another spawn?
Jack.of.all.aquariums
Thanks for checking in! They are still doing well. Nothing too special really just been feeding them and watching them grow incredibly slowly. Unfortunately I haven't been putting much effort into the hobby lately. I think I got a little burnt out from the twice a day brine shrimp hatching and then got my enthusiasm killed when covid was keeping me from getting the tanks I wanted.
Steph’s Fish and Plants
Definitely understandable. My interest waned for a while with covid too and working in a fish store 😅 but these puffers sure keep me coming back. Glad to hear they’re doing well! Jack.of.all.aquariums
Lots of breeding happening lately. I need to figure out a way to collect the eggs. I'm thinking of setting up a small tank to transfer breeding pairs into. I'm guessing the stress will end the breeding so I might need a larger tank they can spend some time in it but I don't really feel like gravel vaccing the entire tank and then looking for eggs. Maybe some more experienced breeders have some ideas?
Preston John
All you need is an airline tube and a bucket. Or if you want to catch the eggs as they are released, try a few aquarium coop sponge filters.
