Sexing Honey Gourami

Hello,

I have a 10 gallon tank with a single Honey Gourami, Zebra Pleco, and snails. I'm wondering if anyone is able to tell the sex and possible age of the Honey Gourami? Thank you!

I’m putting my guess on a male… blunter face, more oval shaped body. I’ve no idea on age. A beautiful gourami though! And lovely tank!

I'd say it's a young male too based on the shape. 

 

Once they mature more the males will develop some black spotting by the throat/pelvic fin area.

Thank you for the responses!! I hope you guys are right and I am leaning the Honey is a male is well. I was trying to eyeball it when I picked him out at the store 1-2 months ago. Hard to tell due to age, Im thinking adolescent.

I’d say male just based on coloring. In my experience the males are always significantly more colorful. The females tend to be more of a creamier paler yellow. And don’t have as much of that orange on the tail.

I bet you are right! Here is my honey, I’m like 90% sure she’s a female:

Definitely less colorful than @Sandrock14 gourami! This picture actually makes her look pretty good, a lot of times she looks rather drab in person😂Love her anwyays!

Sounds good! It seems like most people believe it is male and I agree!

 

And Pony, your female gourami is gorgeous! I really like the lateral line down her side!
