I heard Cory talking about this in a livestream. Basically Easy Carbon is discontinued because it is a "pesticide" and therefore the sale of it would require an absurd about of paperwork.

I was waiting for that to happen (although the correct term would be algaecide). I might have brought this up in a post in the forums a couple years ago. Just look at the warnings on similar products from other brands.

A warning isn’t enough, we were told that they’d be talking to all the other brands and they’d be requiring the same process. I don’t know where they are in the process, but for us we didn’t sell enough to warrant registering it in every state yearly as a pesticide.

Product development and logistics in the planted aquarium hobby sounds like quite an ordeal. You've got ferts and "pesticides", live organisms, foodstuffs, lithium ion batteries, and electricity plus water.

I can live without it…

It is entirely possible to keep a planted tank with no to minimal visible algae without Gluteraldehyde…

I really dont like sticking my arms into a tank with Gluteraldehyde..

Do you get a reaction from the contact? The amount we put into aquariums is very minute.

It sounds like you made the right choice.

I'm not a fan of liquid carb products but does anyone know why sooo many products are being discontinued by the coop?

Ik, but it is pretty dang hard I bet to work with different companys and such to make it happen. But I do have the same question. I bet is is hard though, and I hate that they plan to discontinue the light too, 😭as I wanted to get one, but cannot right now.

From the sounds of it most of it is not stuff they can control, Easy Carbon was due to it being considered a pesticide and having to have it certified in each state, and the lights their manufacturers wanted to focus on a different industry so they will have to find a new manufacturer.

Oh yes know I do remember Cory saying that Sunday night, that makes a lot of sense. And I did not know that about easy carbon, huh. With the pesticides and everything.

You can use the Easy Carbon. There’s nothing wrong with it.

The issue is that Cory can’t sell it without licenses.

Not a fan of liquid carbon products. It's a growrh inhibitor and does not discriminate between algae and desirable aquatic plants.
