Beardedbillygoat1975 Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Well I have exciting news. One of my LFS’ got a breeding group of Synodontis from a breeder whose had to leave the area reportedly. He put them in his newsletter as part of his usual updates on his shop and stock. I replied that I had a 60 g that could work and we agreed on a price. He also took some Endler, Platys, and Guppies in trade. My history with Synodontis date back to high school I had a group of Synodontis nigriventris in with some mbuna in high school and I really contemplated longipinis or Petricola when I had a 55 g mbuna tank in my late 20s/early 30s but they were too expensive. So this is an exciting development. ScotCat had a great article on breeding them https://www.scotcat.com/articles/article30.htm and LRB has some great videos on his setups as well as the breeding cave/egg collector he used. I am looking forward to updating this space as I take this journey. Admin let me know if you want me to do this in journals but I figured it was catfish content! Have fun everyone! 2 2
Chris Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Sweet! Never really learned much about breeding catfish outside of corys and plecos, so excited to follow along here. 1
Beardedbillygoat1975 Posted November 2 Author Posted November 2 @ChrisSo far I’m seeing that temps may make a difference. Some references say 70 -78 but I think mid to high range may be better as I get them closer to 75 they’ve been more active. 1

Beardedbillygoat1975 Posted December 3 Author Posted December 3 A few updates! The group survived the bomb cyclone! But in my attempt to give them a better home one of the juveniles got injured and I had to euthanize them, crying over that one. I got all the Cory catfish I had out of the fish room. This will eventually allow me to have a 60 g breeder for the main group and then a 40 b for grow outs!
