TXFishLover
We started a new 29-gallon tank a while ago. It is planted and well cycled, and checked regularly. We currently have a honey gourami, albino bristle nose pleco, and 5 harlequin rasboras. These have slowly been added in from other tanks. My da wants to add some more to fill out the tank. We are trying to decide between more harlequins or cherry barbs. Any opinions?

PonyPlantedTanks
I love my cherry barbs. They’re quite peaceful as long as you get a good size group of them (8 or more) so they can spread their aggression out amongst themselves. But I still would add more harlequins. You’ll see more interesting behavior with a bigger group!
MWilk
Plenty of room for both.
Tony s
Take your honey gourami to 3-5. They are a bit of a social fish. You’ll see more natural behavior that way And add more harlequins as well. They do much better in bigger groups
Tony s
In a 29g, you still have a lot of room. Even with 3 gourami and 8 rasbora. What you need after that is sort of a statement fish. You’d have a good tank for something like a Bolivian ram. Which would stay mostly on the bottom. Where you really need something. They are a somewhat colorful. Full of personality. And are good in a wide range of water parameters.
