TomO
Just planted and filled my 75. How long do the fertilizers last from start up? Will there be enough, in the water column to feed anubias and java fern?
Fishmonger_X
Anubias and java fern basically get nothing from the substrate so I would invest in liquid ferts that they can absorb in the water column. Both are very hardy plants though so they should be just fine for quite a while. It isn't any kind of emergency situation.
TomO
I have easy green but don’t want an algae bloom from too much fertilizer.
Daniel
As far as I can tell Eco-Complete is inert.

Which means it never really "expires" because the whole point of it is the ability to hold onto nutrients that are introduced to it via fertilizer and organic waste. I'm a big fan of it, because I shy away from the straight-up soil substrates that alter PH and promote algae in the beginning. I may change my mind as I get more advanced. Does any one know if there are any studies out there specifically on the CEC of Eco complete? I was not able to find any. the best I can find is a study on volcanic basalt, showing it having a CEC around 8-11, which is high compared to inert substrates that have almost no CEC, but kind of low compared to something like organic soil which can have a CEC ranging from 40-100.
