Zeaqua Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Hi all! I was looking through my 5 gal blue dream tank, and I noticed an individual with a large red patch on its body. Are there any neocaridina varieties like it, and what could I do to make more? (Photos are the shrimp from both sides) 1 1
GoofyGarra Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Personally i have never seen a Neocaridinia like that before. I would isolate the shrimp to a tank of it's own without other shrimp until I could find another blue/red one to breed with it and start a new line. 1
Zeaqua Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 I’m getting a shipment of red rilis on Saturday, so I may try with those. 1

If you could find Snowball shrimp my testing seems to indicate those are recessive so you might be able to use those to further your line if you cannot find another red/blue shrimp 1
Zeaqua Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 I have a fairly large colony of snowballs, so I could definitely try that at some point. 2
Huckleberry Posted June 19 Posted June 19 I have blue dream shrimp with the same coloration. I'll try to get some pictures tonight of my more weirder ones. 1 1
Cinnebuns Posted June 22 Posted June 22 I had one show up like this in my blue neocaridina tank. I think it's mostly just a cull but maybe you can create a whole other line with it. You never know until you try. 1
HerdyGerdy Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I have a colony of Blue Ocean shrimp and I wonder if red coloration is common in the blue genetics (I haven't reasearched it yet but I would like to dive into shrimp genetics at some point). My blue shrimp on occasion have red babies. Also, I took some macro photos of one of my adult blue shrimp and it had some red coloration to it that wasn't visible to the naked eye. I want to photograph more shrimp in my colony to see if others have this.
mynameisnobody Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I have a colony of LRB’s Blue Dream, he dubs the straightest line in the world. So far, I’ve gotten a touch lighter blue, but I’ve never gotten any red at all. It’s super cool to see what varities can come of this blue shrimp with a cherry on top.
Lynaea Posted November 25 Posted November 25 There’s an online store selling something similar, they’re calling them Blue Razz, so apparently it’s a thing already: https://shrimpupaquatics.com/products/blue-red-rili-shrimp-blue-razz-shrimp?variant=49522059772072 1
Creedmoor Aquatics Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I have a line of Bloody Mary reds that will sometimes throw blues and chocolates, and the blues will sometimes have the red patch. Every now and then I think of trying to breed for it and call the strain Red Headed Blues or something but I imagine the genetics aren't very stable.

tolstoy21 Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I see pictures shrimp with that 'rusty' look to them every now and then. Absolutely love it!!!!!! I believe blue blue dreams come from the same line that produced bloody marys. So it's not surprising that red could manifest itself in some lucky shrimp. If you breed out more of these, and want to part with some, I'd be happy to trade some cashola for a few. 🙂

The shimp i shared is from LRB's line also. 1

They show up here and there. As my multiple colonies are growing i will one day put them all together in their own tank. See what happens. 1
ccurtis Posted November 26 Posted November 26 There is a local breeder here in TN that has line like those and breeds them. He calls them rusted blue dreams. Looking through my tank of blue dreams the other day, I actually spotted a couple that have the rusted look to them that I need to cull out, but they do look pretty awesome.
Pwnedn00b Posted Saturday at 05:10 PM Posted Saturday at 05:10 PM I have a group of these blue rilis that have been very difficult to breed true. I originally bought them from bioaquatix as 'blueberry shrimp', they were supposed to be dark blue with various black markings on their backs, but none of them looked like the picture. After over a year of aggressive culling, only half are born looking like the ones in the first picture (blue dream color with black rili markings. Some have come out as a pale blue jelly with a red cap or red rili markings. I've considered setting up a separate tank to breed this because I think it's cool, but not sure if they're desirable to anyone but me.
