Collecting data on Medake Rice Fish

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

While reading up on rice fish, I noticed that everyone seems to keep them in different conditions.
Just for fun I'd like to collect some data on the conditions you keep them in and make some graphs.

If you are keeping rice fish indoors in a fishtank and have a bit of spare time, please copy the following questions and post them with the answers below.

  • Q: How many rice fish do you keep in the tank?
    A:
  • Q: How much water does the tank hold?
    A:
  • Q: What temperature is the water at?
    A:
  • Q: What pH is the water at?
    A:
  • Q: What is the GH of the water?
    A:
  • Q: What substrate, if any, are you using?
    A:
  • Q:  What plants have you got in the tank?
    A:
  • Q:  Do your rice fish lay eggs?
    A:
  • Q:  If you hatched the eggs under the conditions you wrote above, what hatch rate did you have?
    A:

If you have a suggestion with which to expand the questions, feel free to comment.

Thanks for your time 🙂

Q: How much water does the tank hold?

A: 20g long

Q: What temperature is the water at?

A: 72

Q: What pH is the water at?

A: 6.8

Q: What is the GH of the water?

A: 300ppm

Q: What substrate, if any, are you using?

A: wood cellulose capped with sand

Q: What plants have you got in the tank?

A: red tiger lotus, java fern, anubias, anacharis, dwarf sag, moneywort, pearlweed, crypt lutea, tons of hornwort floating

Q: Do your rice fish lay eggs?

A: yes, initially in floating hornwort in QT; not since added to community tank

Q: If you hatched the eggs under the conditions you wrote above, what hatch rate did you have?

A: While in QT, I didn't realize there were eggs. Just suddenly found 2 dozen fry, of which only 7 made it to juvenile stage.
