NickD
What is this stuff? It’s at the top of my planted aquarium.
Guppysnail
That is oil residue or protein film. Lotion on hands, excess decaying protein food. lay a paper towel gently on the surface flat and then lift and repeat until it’s gone. Or use a cup dipped just below the water line to skim it off. You also need more surface agitation if this is forming. And when it’s there it stops the ability of gas’s exchange in the water.
JoeQ
On Amazon search for the ssk-65 surface skimmer. It is probably one of the best skimmers for a small freshwater tank. You will want to cut your own pads tho. The one included is too porous IMO. Edited January 27 by JoeQ
