Fishkeeper1010
Hello guys, I adopted this betta from my LFS as I had an empty 5 gallon ready for new fish. He had really ratty fins which I don’t know is from deformity or fin rot. It seems like it’s grown a little bit though, which is a good sign. If anyone could identify wether it’s fine or or deformity please comment below😊I would also like to know what fin type he is. If his tail does grow back I would like to pair him to a female betta to breed him as he does have a good body form, from what I can tell at least. I would want to pair him to a half moon female but I have heard that the veil tail gene is more prominent. I would want to achieve some half moon or delta fries if possible. If the fries turn out to be deltas with halfmoon genes can I breed a son back to the mother to get true halfmoons? please comment down below to help😁😊
Lennie
It is usually suggested to breed males and females with the same fin type and suitable colors otherwise you will end up with babies with different colors and fin types that would be probably harder to rehome and cheap if you are planning to sell them, as these fin types and colors are end products of breeding specifically for this look for many generations. This color map may also give you an idea Btw, I can't be sure if it's a male just like you mentioned. Somehow it gives me female vibes, But I can be sure. Can you see egg spot? Fishkeeper1010
Hello, thank you for responding, Although I am not entirely sure, there are several points pointing towards it being a male: he has long flowing ventrals which females don’t have, or at least not as long he keeps making bubble nests in his tank he is a very feisty little fish, he was supposed to be a tank mate for my honey gourami in a 7gallon tank, however, he kept chasing the gourami, nipping it. I end up have to put him in my 5 gallon snail tank. he does not have a visible egg spot. Thank you so much for your help and please feel free to provide your helpful ideas.😁😊 Hello, thank you for responding, Although I am not entirely sure, there are several points pointing towards it being a male: he has long flowing ventrals which females don’t have, or at least not as long he keeps making bubble nests in his tank he is a very feisty little fish, he was supposed to be a tank mate for my honey gourami in a 7gallon tank, however, he kept chasing the gourami, nipping it. Also any master breeding out there that can share ideas about the body form of this fish? It is a good candidate to breed?
