Erik
Does anyone know how long it takes for a new sponge filter placed in an established tank to grow enough beneficial bacteria to be placed in a new tank?
Fish Folk
I'd give three weeks. But maybe others have better answers. 2
Galabar
It may help to rub the new filter against the current filter, as well as the sides of the tank and the gravel. However, I haven't seen any actual experiments to back up that technique.
JChristophersAdventures
@Erik I would agree with @Fish Folk, but also keep in mind that it doesn't mean it's ready to support a lot of live-stock at that time. You would be wise to add fish slowly over a matter of weeks and you might find it useful to also add more beneficial bacteria like Fritz Turbo Start. Thanks.
