HelplessNewbie
Three days ago, I didn't notice until too late that my ACO multi-test strip had a loose pad from another strip attached to it. My betta snatched then swallowed it before I could react. Will she be okay? She seems to be acting normal. Am feeling guilty... Tanked
It is possible that the fish may have regurgitated the pad later, so there is always hope.
Flumpweesel
Don't panic, if it seems happy it probably is and as Tanked said either spat it out when you weren't looking or its just done it no harm. Just watch it eat and poop and if everything is normal just relax.
xXInkedPhoenixX
To be safe I might feed the Betta a high fiber diet of daphnia (I use freeze dried) and/or bloodworms for a week.
DaveO
Just guessing here. If it can eat it, it can poop it.
xXInkedPhoenixX
@DaveO, mmm, maybe but sometimes one needs their stomach pumped cause it's going to hurt coming out the other end....
DaveO
Yes, but I was thinking of just a fish. Now some people are a different matter.

I’ve taken LOTS of foreign bodies out of animals that they would have never been able to, ahem, . . . . . deliver. The esophagus is very elastic and there is a slight stricture effect in nearly every species of mammal where the small intestine meets the large intestine. I can’t say on every species, but it’s also present in birds, axolotls, and many reptiles. It should only take about 5-7 days of normal poops to be sure the pad isn’t causing an issue because it has either passed, wasn’t actually ingested, or was regurgitated. Their gut transit time is only about 2 days for a Betta, but sometimes food can be bypassing a foreign body. But 5-7 days with no issues and you should be fully past any danger point. 1

Being non-biodegradable, a ceramic floor tile would have been more accurate, but who would eat one of those?😉
