Small black spheres all over outdoor pond.

Recommended Posts

Hello all, went to feed my 100 gallon outdoor aquaponics pond today and I found these black orbs all over the surface of the water. Any idea what they could be? My current stock is guppies, swordtails, and sarasa comet goldfish. Initially I thought goldfish eggs? I live in the FL keys where they pond temp is usually 80-85F, I would think it’s way too hot for them to spawn. Any input is appreciated!

Are the eggs in your pond clustered together, and surrounded by a clear glob or sphere of jelly?

No there is no glob of jelly. If I lift them out of the water and set them back down they sink to the bottom. If they are frog eggs hopefully my goldfish will eat the tadpoles

I want to say toad eggs tend to be in loose aggregates like that.

But definitely amphibian eggs.

Hopefully my goldfish eat the tadpoles. It would look like the 2nd plague from the book of exodus if all of these things make it 😂

So after some research I think these are Cuban tree frog eggs (which is an invasive species in the keys). Gonna sink/ remove as many as I can and hope my goldfish devour any survivors.
