OfficialThomas
Does anybody have any ideas on how to quarantine new fish if you are short on space? I am 15 and I really can only keep aquariums in my room but I also want to be able to make sure new fish are healthy by quarantining them before adding them to my 20 gallon display tank. Does anybody have a solution? Could I "quarentine" new fish in the display tank and just treat the whole display tank with meds? Thanks!
TheSwissAquarist
That idea could work, but you’d spend more on meds and it won’t look great for some time. I’m also 15 (16 on Aug 1st!)and get your point, so I’d advise a tub with an airstone and a lid. I personally use these: 1

If you setup the tank on the floor you would want something hard like a wood board or plastic sheet under the tank to prevent the bottom glass from getting stressed. It is a semi-permanent thing, but just try to figure out something where you can lay on the floor or sit on the floor and visually monitor the fish. If the tank is empty, yes, but if the tank is not empty then it would not be considered QT. Edited July 23 by nabokovfan87

Pepere
I tried the plastic tub idea once as I originally saw on Girl Talks Fish. as a practical matter I hated it. I could only really view the fish from the top. During quarantine I really want to be able to spend a good 5 - 10 minutes daily closely observing the fish for any odd behaviors that is difficult to discern looking down from the top. A ten gallon aquarium tank is not far removed in price from a 10 gallon tote… the only real difference is the ease of storage when not in use. There is also a real benefit in keeping your quarantine tank in a separate room from your display tank to avoid cross contamination with shared equipment. I understand that may not be an option available to some.
