Chick-In-Of-TheSea
My friend has these white dots that swim, but they do not have the intermittent start/stop of ostracods. Does anyone know what they could be?
Lennie
Copepods I feel like. Love the video names. "Swimming dot 1" "Swimming dot 2" 😄

I have copepods. They are not this big and do not swim so gracefully. Edited July 2 by Chick-In-Of-TheSea
Guppysnail
Possibly daphnia or ostracods. Lots of tiny white swimming things live in tanks. Harmless usually would need a close up macro video or photo to even hazard rough guess.
nabokovfan87
Very difficult to see anything. Yet of course, I'm pretty sure I got those same things jumping around my tank too. Maybe this is what it is? Edited July 2 by nabokovfan87
Dork Fish
I agree with @Chick-In-Of-TheSea, I have copepods also and copepods are much smaller and swim semi-sporadically. Not exactly sure what they are though. Like @Guppysnail said, would need macro photos/video to be sure. 🙂 1

Are you mixing up ostracods and copepods? Ostracods tend to have smoother movement than copepods, which are jerky and “shoot” around. @nabokovfan87’s vid of cory eggs in hatcher looks like copepods, to me. In my experience, the ostracods tend to glide around very smoothly, so I wouldn’t discount them as a possibility in your friends tank. 1

Dork Fish
@Chick-In-Of-TheSea That is okay, it isn't very hard but it is time consuming LOL 🙂 To get my macro photos, I had to catch a copepod in a syringe, put one drop on a white paper plate then take a pic from my smartphone through the eyelet of a pocket microscope. Guess which part was the most frustrating... LOL

I have a macro lens for my tanks, but my friend doesn't have one.
Chick-In-Of-TheSea
I caught a copepod in a photo today, and I wasn’t trying to. Do you see it? 1

I didn’t know copepods came in so many different flavors. I’d say bottom middle. The copepod kinda reminds me of Orange Bird, a retro Disney character because of the 2 leaves on his head.
