Beginners brackish

Recommended Posts

I’ve mentioned recently I’m going to be setting up my first brackish tanks soon. For my slightly salty friends out there what is your brackish gravity preference/recommendation? From what I’ve read there can be a pretty big divide between things that can go low end and high end brackish. My only stipulation is that it will be a 90g tank with a Gymnothorax Polyuranodon.

A moray eel salinity should be around 1.008 to 1.012. Some websites also state that it can be up to full marine as well.

This specific moray seems to have a wider range than most, most people actually claim it can go full fresh water its whole life. Most wild specimens are found in fresh water but I’m not sure how well that correlates with what they prefer. I’d be comfortable at least trying it on any scale of brackish and seeing how it does, I’m more so wondering about tank mates and if people have preferences/opinions on keeping high end or low end brackish set ups

My preference is low end brackish, because it gives you more options for plants. It also has the small bonus of saving you time and money from dosing as much marine salt. I would only do higher end brackish if I needed to to keep a particular animal.
