Planted Goldfish Pond

Hey everyone,

I am thinking to add a lot of java fern to my outdoor goldfish pond. I am in California so the water temps in winter only get about 50 degrees. I am propagating java fern now and planing to make underwater lights for the plants because the pond is always very dark (it is in the shade).  Has anyone done this and have some pointers? I will update you all once I get this going.

I have tried putting plants in my pond but the fish just either dig them up or eat them.
