Please I MUST know more 😲

I NEED these 🤣

They are very tiny compared to normal nerites!

They live in freshwaters here. They all have different shell patterns. Here are some pics from local forums here:

Only if something controls their population. 😉

Yes I know it should be me. Just going to have fry in there eventually.

Pups love this one.

A betta would have a blast in that worm tank.

Also that video is adorable.

Must get some of those in the summer! I've seen them in lake Geneva, but always presumed that they'd die if I collected some.

I'm not sure if they are the same. They must be local to these sides only if I'm not wrong

Suddenly the shrimp thread is about snails. I will help

I have some of these guys, wild type I guess. Wondering if I should cull them out to a planted vase or something? Or they could go to my 29 but there are a bunch of tetras in there. Also the temp is 78 which I’m not sure is the best for molts.

If you want to keep mostly blue shrimp then you should definitely remove the off color shrimp.  If it was a tank of red shrimp I might suggest waiting a while on that one, since they often get better color as they age, but in my experience blue shrimp colors don't change much.

I'm not aware of temperature affecting their ability to molt.

I would cull them so you have two lines.

Wild type (spots) eventually go to a rili type. (Blue rili)

You don't want that mixing with the blue because then you'll end up with blue rili or just black mixing in there. Control it better now before things get out of hand. 🙂

Temp at there is fine. Will encourage breeding. Lowering it by a few degrees helps with oxygenation and development. (Lower temp, not too cold showed in a study larger size in the end, but a lower ramp up time to get to that size.  Slow start, but better overall development in the end of the study.)

I think they are still too small to go in the community tank. They might get eaten.

It’s fine let them grow more there, they won’t breed until they reach sexual maturity anyway!
you can cull when they are bigger.

what tetras do you have in 29g?

I found the best thing for me and water changes for the shrimp sanctuary I keep a gallon water jug with 1lbs cc in it. I let it age for the week and set at room temp. Then do the water change and use that water to refill. Then refill the jug and let it season for the week until the next water change.

I like this idea! A way to use up some of my crushed coral and shell bits without just dumping in my tanks.

I am trying to picture this so I can copycat. Are you saying you put a pound of crushed coral in a gallon jug, fill the rest with water, and when you do water changes in your shrimp tank you use the water from that jug and leave the coral in the jug? So the coral stays in the jug until it gets used up, but all the water is effectively treated with coral, without having to add coral to the tank?

Yep that's exactly what I do. I use a 3 gallon water jug from Wal Mart. There like 10 bucks. The cc always stays in the jug. Just add more cc as needed when it dissolves. I have been doing it this way for months and have yet to need to add more cc. I also keep the cc mixed in the gravel of the shrimp tank as well.

I just wanted to do it this way so the water changes wouldn't affect the parameters as much this way. I'm sure there so used to the water changes by now that it might not make a difference. But as well this way I always know the water is room temp just like there tank too. If you do get a just just put a couple of holes in the lid for proper gas exchange.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hopefully I’ll start seeing baby shrimp in the next week. Momma shrimp has almost no eggs left and we are around the 3 week mark. Fingers crossed that means they have started hatching out

My Amano shrimp are continuing to have impressive molts. I wonder how much bigger they can get 9B03CBB2-C830-4358-AA38-E9394BD5E2DD.jpeg.93f7cac91fcc2e3b8451cfd56d5eb7b2.jpeg
