RosaV
After doing some maintenance on my tank, I noticed a small caterpillar type thing. It was flowing with the current and doesn't seem to be alive. This is the first time seeing one after having fish for two weeks. Does anyone know if it's something to be concerned about? FLFishChik
I’m no expert by any means, but it looks more like a piece of plant debris? What live plants do you have in the tank?
RosaV
Currently I have monte carlo, anubias barteri, staurogyne repens, and hydrocotyle tripartita 'Japan' . They are not looking the best right now, so it could be a plant root that looks like a caterpillar.

The reason I ask is because a few weeks ago, I freaked out over a rather large “worm” in my tank… turns out, it was just a piece of root that broke off of my Argentine Sword and had started to decay 😂 Edited January 28, 2023 by FLFishChik
nabokovfan87
That's terrifying.... I would remove it, move it to a jar or something. Hopefully someone can ID it.@Biotope Biologist have you ever seen anything like this?
TOtrees
Could it be part of a shrimp moult?
FLFishChik
I still say it’s plant debris. Looks like a decaying section of Staurogyne Repens.
lewk
It definitely looks like plant debris to me. Did you poke and prod it at all? 😛

Could've been a rogue plant that got in the shipment and then adjusted very poorly. If it is a plant, floating it should result in some growth and maybe you can ID it. 2
