Especially the Bluefin! (I found the orangey one again lol!) The only sad part is their lifespan 🙁Wish it was longer. But nature has its own way of working things out :')

Slick_Nick
I got another quick pic this morning of a male and female before work! Can’t wait to be off for the weekend so I can look at them more I happened to look in the small tank I set up for fry of these guys I set the tank up a few weeks ago and threw some moss from another tank in. Well I have 3 fry swimming around in there right now. My guess is boesmani rainbows lol from my big tank. You might be able to make out a sliver or two from this pic 1 1

Looks like a couple annuals even. They have such a neat body shape!! Thanks for sharing some photos Nice go Killi Krew! I just put spawning mops in my tank thanks to @Fish Folk. I have a big gardneri with a female and a pair of Notho Guntheri from PVAS auction and @Fish Folk. Jealous of the Wet Spot Killis. I saw them and really wanted them but not enough tank space! 1

Love it! I’m noticing a theme with spawning mops over moss. Does it seem to be more effective or just preference? I understand the tank space haha the good thing is there will always be plenty of other killis for us to try when we do have space. Yeah I haven’t seen any other killi females in person before but they actually have some red spotting on their sides and in the fins as well. I’ll try to get a really good pic this weekend!
Slick_Nick
Here are a couple pics of the females. One is a bit bigger than the other so I got a closer up photo of the bigger one. They have the faint red stripes in their body and yellow through the anal fin with red in the tail and dorsal fins. They are actually nice to look at especially in person! The tank is starting to going through a diatom stage now that there’s some fish in it 2

Slick_Nick
Here is a pic of the other male as well. I noticed this males red stripes go a little crazy halfway through his body lol right at his fins. Where as the other males stripes are perfectly uniform all the way down his body. This also seems to be the larger of the two males by a little bit. He let me get up pretty close for a pic
Lennie
I thought killis love to spend time on the upper side of the tank. They seem to be in mid/bottom in every picture. Learning something new everyday

I can get better looking photos of them when they are lower that’s why the photos are when they are down low the lighting hits them better for the pictures! Xr4tiCrew
You may have convinced me to try these fish in my 20g long. Curious what your tank parameters are?

Higher than 74°F and you get more males, lower than that any it skews towards female. https://www.killi.co.uk/speciesProfile/Aphyosemion/striatum/#breeding

In the summer without heater it’s about 74 to 75
Slick_Nick
@Xr4tiCrew so I attempted to do the liquid test kit and my ph showed 6.6 Gh unsure I gave up after 12 drops I know my water is hard. Kh 1. So I decided to do the test strips also and took a pic of the results. I also did my tds meter and it read 348ppm where in all my other tanks it reads 646ppm. Hope this helps a little I’m not the greatest with water parameters
Xr4tiCrew
@Slick_Nick thanks for posting this. Not sure I'll be able to make my tank work for these fish as my PH is close to 8.0. Utah has very hard water.

I’ll test my ph of my tap water tonight I’m sure it’s probably high too. After about a year or so I’ve noticed the aqua soil can’t keep the ph at that 6.6 and it’ll go up to around 7.4 which still isn’t bad.

I think some of the nothobranchius species are more flexible about their pH range but they're also annual species. I've also read that pH impacts sex ratios but I don't have enough experience to see that for myself.
Slick_Nick
I noticed a couple lighter patches on the larger female tried to get pictures but it’s difficult there’s one on top of her head and another right before her dorsal fin. She’s still acting normal and eating normal the two males and other female look fine. Any ideas?
Schuyler
I've read they are prone to velvet, at least as fry. @Colu do you think this is early stages of velvet or is it something else like fungus or bacterial infection?

Cause in my case it only tickles my ph and kh. Still sitting on 8.0ph 20kh even with alder cones and catappa leaf added. :') Hope your fishies are okay btw. Doesn't look like velvet it could be an injury or the start of a bacterial infection what I would do is a course of maracyn2 in food feeding a small amount twice a day for 7 days @Slick_Nick
