Karen B. Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 My betta’s fin looks abnormal on two places (its tail and abdominal fin). It’s been going on for a few weeks now. I have not noticed any change in his behavior, he eats and swims normally. To me it looks like he might have injured himself and the fins fused in a weird way, but it also look like small bumps so I am skeptical. Anyone could help, please? thanks!
Colu Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 What are your water parameters ammonia nitrite nitrate temperature @Karen B.
Chick-In-Of-TheSea Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 (edited) Not going to be a thread hijacker, so please address @Karen B.’s questions/concerns first. A week or two ago my betta had a hole in his tail. That healed fully. I used Indian almond leaf tea and water dechlorinator Prime. Now, his tail is shorter and the hole has returned. I thought he had boredom and was tail biting so I added enrichment to the tank (several swim thrus and plants), and he utilizes them. But now, his dorsal fin is looking skeletal, for lack of a better word. Also the longer part of the dorsal fin appears to be rigid, does not move/sway when he turns. Any ideas? Temp 78 Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrate 10 gH 180 kH 80 pH 7.5 Despite what I believe are good parameters, I did a 50% water change, again adding the IAL tea, and Prime. Colu Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 (edited) Looks like fin rot I think a course of kanaplex in food feeding a small amount twice a day for 7 days and add a small amount of aquarium salt 1 table spoon for 5 gallons at that level it shouldn't harm your plants it will aid Gill function and essential electrolytes and increase your temperature to 80-82 Bettas do when the temperature is in the low 80s Edited January 21, 2023 by Colu 1 1

Chick-In-Of-TheSea Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Here is the update on Geppetto. Saturday - Today: Not wanting to dump a bunch of medication in at once and not know what worked, I was planning on doing a phased treatment. So this is just 1 T salt per 5 gal. Plus the usual tannins from the almond leaves. @Karen B. how is your betta doing? Did you see the question about your parameters?

Here is Gandalf, in his aquarium @Colu sorry it took me so long to reply. 0/0/0 pH 7 temp 78f gh 300 kh 40 No chlorine. He has been in this tank for over a year, same parameters 1
Colu Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 What I would do is treat with aquarium salt 1 table spoon for 5 gallons at that level it shouldn't harm your plants and Indian almond leaves as they have antibacterial and antifungal properties depending on the quality of leaves you might have to add one leaf per gallon to get the benefial effect @Karen B. 1
