Stef
I want to add some mystery and nerite snails for this 20 gal long rimless tank but as it is, I think they could easily escape. The glass lid sits on clips and leaves gaps around the front and back of tank. I know I can get some egg crate and cut it to fit, but what do you use to attach it to the glass lid or rim? Tape? Hook? Can you cut the piece tight to wedge it tight to hold in place?
Guppysnail
These are my rimmed because I don’t have it on my rimless tanks right now but it works the same. I cut the egg crate so it hang over the back and sides and just a bit over where the lid is so the lid slides under. I leave a lot over the back to make a shelf for pothos to grow across so it doesn’t fall behind the tank. sorry can’t find the photo. I’ll take some for you tomorrow.
Stef
Ah ha, so the egg crate is supported by and rests on the back and side tank walls. I think I get it now. Thank you @Guppysnail
Guppysnail
Yes I use the actual tank sides as supports. 3 wall keeps it up. On the long tanks it bows in the center that why I cut it wide enough to rest on the lid itself. Edited January 8 by Guppysnail 1

Hi, just a thought but if you wanted the egg crate to remain below the rim, you could place magnets in the corners and centers to act as "shelf pins" if you will. So, it would be very simple to just lift the crate out and drop it back in place it as needed. I hang all of my driftwood from the top lids with magnets. Almost any neodymium magnets strong enough would work, and they come in a myriad of shapes, sizes and strengths. You won't need any adhesive or mechanical supports. The inner and outer magnet hold each other in place through the glass and they're quite strong and don't drift easily. Also waterproof. Stef
Snail proof!! Now I just need the snails. Thanks for all the help. Was easy to cut. I used extra clips I had for the glass lid and it fits nicely flush with the glass.
