Gravel as underlying substrate to create volume

Hello,

First time poster here. Just wanted to get your opinions on using gravel as an underlying substrate to create volume in certain areas of the tank? Not everywhere will have gravel, but in areas where I would like to create a "hill" per se, is it feasible to use gravel on the bottom and use eco complete on top/as the main substrate?

I don't see why this wouldn't work.  Seems like a good way to save money on eco complete 👍.

A lot of aquascapers use pea gravel or crushed lava rock, often in mesh bags or even pantyhose, to create hills or higher area in tanks before putting aquasoil or sand on top. It eliminates having to use so much of the more expensive substrate.
