Doc_Ho11iday
Do I wash the roots in dirty tank water first then plop them in the HOB? I have an Aquaclear 70.
Guppysnail
I wash mine in the sink. Sometimes the dirt stick a lot. I let it sit in a dish of water for a few days to loosen it. If I don’t get enough off I get a brown diatom bloom in the hob and a bit in the tank. It’s no big deal and goes away but looks poor.
Expectorating_Aubergine
I cut off as much of the roots as I can stand, then I plop it in. Easy peasy. Cut the top of the plant back too. That way the transition is easier for the plant...
Comradovich
Trim Pothos at 45 degree angle. Place Trimming directly into the filter. Expect that it'll wilt a little before perking back up. I use my filter to start pothos cuttings that I plan to re-pot later on. It's kind of hard to kill pothos. While I'm sure it'll work if you baby those roots, I know for sure it'll work even with no roots at all.

I hack that poor cutting off at whatever angle my old scissors hit it. 😆 Tuck it in the HOB nestled against a block of sponge filter, and done. When I put peace lily (Spathiphyllium) in my HOB I dig out a small side start, rinse as much dirt off the roots as possible, trim off any unhealthy looking root bits, then tuck it in like a sweet little baby.
ccurtis
Just a piece off and wedge it in the filter. Let nature handle the rest. Pothos is extremely resilient.
