New tank. Plant melt. Thoughts?

How long has your tank been set up?

Were they planned as stems or with roots?

Are you dosing any liquid fertilizers?

It kinda looks like all your plants are melting back a bit. Probably because of the shift in water hardness. If I remember right Cory says his area has pretty soft water. Or maybe they got a bit too cold in shipping?

The pogostemon is the fastest growing out of the bunch so it will show signs of melting fastest. If you aren't adding liquid ferts I'd get some.

My guess is that you'll start seeing more signs of melting from the sword soon but then it will grow new leaves that are adjusted to your water parameters.

I just set it up this past Friday with the plants ordered from Aquarium coop (here). As i understand per their site they usually grow them outside of the tank? the plants came with the liquid fert i ordered and i dosed it right away.

I live in florida, it might be the water hardness i suppose .

Thank  you. i hope it doesnt die, I think the aquarium coop says to do up to 2 doses per week. maybe ill do a half dose daily initially?

15GL, 15 drops for the next 5 days?

Plants grown out of water trend to melt away their emersed grown leaves and grow back new ones.

I would stick to there recommendations for fertilizer. Or maybe even do less since the plants are still adjusting. They have the roots and you have good substrate in there, once the roots adjust I bet it will take off.

I'll add the caveat that I've only been doing this for a few months. If someone else doesn't respond in the next few days you could try posting this in the plants section.

Your PSO may indeed be adjusting to your water and lighting.  Mine are growing in hard water and never went through a melt, so I'm not sure what all you have going on.  Initially I would trim most or all of the damaged leaves, they are lost.  I think I see newer shorter leaves on your plants so be patient..  An extra shot of EG won't hurt.  If they were mine, I would also cut and plant the top of the tallest plant as this could stimulate new growth.

Thank you for the follow up.

POS is not looking good. Monte Carlo either. I have fluval flex 15 and had the water jet aimed for no to minimal surface agitation.

Last night I increased my nitrates from very low 0 to 10 to now 20 to 30 with ez fertilizer.

Also re aimed the waterpump jet to get more gas exchange in the water as I have no fish.

Increasing to 10hrs light

I might try a budget sugar yeast co2 set up next week also.

Might try root tabs next. See updated pic

Stick to the Aquarium Co-Op dosing schedule. Fertilizer will not cure the melt. You can dose Fritz complete daily until ammonia and nitrite reaches zero. This will neutralize the ammonia if that’s a cause of the melting. It’s more likely that they are just adjusting. I would trim any melting leaves. Dead or dying leaves will invite algae.
