I am sitting here watching Cory tour a wholesale facility and i am reminded of my bad luck with all of the short bodied goldfish i  have kept over the yrs. i have 15 yr old normal goldfish and shubunkins, but the telescope eyes, ryukins, pearl scales etc, all ended up dying bloated and floating upside down. i tried everything ( this was over the course of 4 yrs) but eventually they died. are there any surefire tipes to prevent this? is it food or genetics? i dont want to revisit until i know what i did wrong. cheers.

solidgold aquatics has a lot of good content on goldfish, and about an hour long or so video talking about genetic issues.

I can't speak to what is or isn't going on with the genetics, but someone who has a lot of experience, this might be one to look at and think over the conversation from this hobbyist.
