Update on the most-likely-Palaeatus-cory eggs: half have fungused, and the other half has yet to show signs of life…could be infertile.☹️. I remember reading in an aquarium book that the fertility ratio drops as the water temp rises.

The tank is heated at 26 Celsius (not Fahrenheit 😜!). Seeing as I don’t want to upset the balance which I have been troubleshooting for A YEAR to get to, I’m eyeing up a 7 gallon plastic tub. Probably heat that at 22-23 Celsius, add 2 pairs and wait for results!!

As for the breeder box: It’s been some time since I last bred Zebra Danios, and my females are looking eggbound…! My LFS only has a group of 15 left, and they’re all looking a bit emanciated, room for some more!
I’ll probably do the Palaeatus cories on Wednesday, and give the eggs another day to shake a leg (or a fin 😅!), then set up the Zebra danios on Monday. All seems to be happening round here!

Any thoughts??😄

Thanks! Have you got any baby snails on the go?

I can’t tell who is laying the eggs! Is it a gold snail or a magenta snail? They do it in secret when I’m asleep. I need to make sure they are magenta ones. Did you know @TeeJay just hatched some! He’s got a journal going.

Here’s some photos from my last hatch.

Ooh, yay! The darker ones look promising! How many days along are they now? I think different types of cories take different amounts of time to become wigglers. At least in my experience they have, anyway. Baby cories are so so exciting! I'm pumped to see if hopefully some hatch!

I've also had super good luck with throwing a neocaridina shrimp or two in with cory eggs to keep them fungus-free. I've had a MUCH higher hatch rate since adding them. They're such good little egg nannies.

Also what type of bristlenose do you breed? They look beautiful!

Almost 5 days now...I'll give them a week before I write them off as 'failed' and use the breeder box for Emperor Tetras.

Tad late now, and I only have two shrimp! Though the female is berried though 🥳!!

Thanks!! They're just normal ones, though the babies are normal x gold/albino.

What happened to the rest of the shrimp?

Egg update (one of many to come hopefully 🤞)!!!:

Eggs doing fine, that is to say “no difference whatsoever”, and no more have fungused! I’m giving them till Thursday to hatch (knowing my luck they’ll hatch Wednesday evening!) and we’ll see what happens…BCE5C9EC-50AD-4455-AB35-E170C5AAE5F5.jpeg.4c5c8091a24679e39c882fb110956c2e.jpeg

Genuinely if the shrimp don’t l hatch by the time comes to give them up keep the female and then you will be able to give more shrimp! (Also not sure about this but couldn’t the stress of moving kill the eggs?)

I'm not that desperate for them...I might enjoy some free shrimps, but I wouldn't lie!!

Just say there was an egg tax for holding them for him.

The longest egg-till-wiggler stage for a Cory I've had was 7 days almost exactly for my Julii. I'd say as long as they still look dark/getting darker and not fungused give them a chance! Within reason of course.

Looking forward to seeing your tetra breeding project, though. Breeding tetras and killifish always seems like some next level stuff to me so I like to live vicariously though others.

Your angelfish is stunning as well! 😍

I've never seen these before. I thought all Tetras had an adipose fin.

Are you familiar with their breeding method?

Looks like she's about to pop anyway!!

The same friend lends me a female angelfish every time I'm feeling like spawning them...and I lend the male form time to time!

I've done X-Ray tetras before, but this is a whole new level. AKA 'Not seeing the eggs' level!

Saw my old betta/rainbow fish tank in my garage and just thought : ‘Hi old friend! Wanna have one last spin?’ Took it up to my bedroom and currently searching for a filter/heater. I could use it as a grow out, but I really want to try my hand at annual killifish… any other ideas?? F33A410C-CFCB-4A42-B2CB-01289D535F52.jpeg.6040930eba917a17ed55ef41dcefcaeb.jpeg

You could try a killifish in the Aphyosemion genius. Then you could use a breeding mop rather than drying out the eggs (unless that part is part of what sounds fun)

Edit: oops... I didn't look at the date on this
