What is this? Fungus from new spiderwood?

Recommended Posts

I just started a 20gallon a week ago with a new light. Had a hair algae bloom so I did a black out for two days, Turn on the light to see these.

I'm using my old filter from my last tank and those balls and the algae are predominantly on that side of the tank.

My plants are looking super rough but I figured that was from switching to remineralized RO water.

That's bio film. Completely normal and just ignore it. It will go away. Shrimp love to eat it and other critters too.

That's fair but I'm nervous of putting livestock in such a new tank. I'm sure critters would love it but I'm not sticking them in there.

I was sorely tempted to put a snail of some kind in there, either nerite or mystery snail. Just to clean stuff up but I really don't want to deal with snails again.
