Pencapchew95
I had an idea to keep duckweed in this small 10 gallon tank primarily for the purpose of feeding it to my Goldie’s as I’ve heard it grows quickly . Anyone know if this is possible?
CrashBandit05
Of course it's possible, give it time and you'll have an entire tank full of it. I jokingly call it "the glitter of the aqarium world" because you'll never be able to fully get rid of it! I thought I had eradicated it many months ago and still see the occasional in my tanks. Pencapchew95
@CrashBandit05 Do you think it’ll grow fast enough that I can feed it to them regularly? I should clarify the duckweed is growing in a separate tank .
CrashBandit05
With enough lighting, I'm sure. I generally cull back my amazon frogbit and water spangles once a week. It takes about a week or so to completely fill up the aquariums.
Expectorating_Aubergine
Keep it in a bucket outside in full sun. Give it dry ferts, and hold on. You'll have more duckweed than you'll know what to do with.....
smm333
I have duckweed in 2 of my 10 gallon tanks. It grows crazy fast! I take big scoops out when it gets out of hand ( about once a week) and toss it in my turtle tanks. They love it! It's an awesome plant if you have a pet who'll eat it. Tanked
I don't think I've ever heard of somebody concerned about not being able to grow enough Duckweed! As a supplement, it should be easy to grow enough. I grow Duckweed in a shallow tray on the windowsill, an outdoor tub, and behind a fish fence in one aquariums. Water for the tray is sourced from one of the aquariums. When the DW reproduces to the point where it pushes past the fence, it becomes snack food for the fish.
Pencapchew95
@Tanked sorry for the late response ! Thank you so much for your take! The idea of a fish fence for feeding duckweed is actually genius! Maybe I’ll start a window sill duckweed farm then 🙂
