Aponogeton Crispus And Amazon Sword issues

Recommended Posts

Planted these two about two/two and a half  months ago. Been supplementing with root tabs and Easy green. The Aponogeton Crispus melted back after getting planting and then quickly grew these sprigs, but hasn’t grown AT ALL since. The Amazon sword melted to what you see now and hasn’t gotten any worse, but hasn’t gotten better. What can I do so support better growth?

Thanks!

How many root tabs did you put under the sword? My experience is a sword that size eats a root tab a week. I'd probably put 3 or 3 under there a month for a few months to watch the grow really take off.

What temperature is your aquarium?

What are your tank dimensions?

What lighting are you using?

How much flow do you have?

How long is your photoperiod?

Tank temp is at 75. It’s a 29 gallon. Using a fluval set between medium/high light. Lights are on for four hours in the morning and 4 at night. I use a sponge filter so very gentle flow. All these photos were taken on the same day which is about 2/2.5 months after planting. I can’t recall the exact date.

Oh wow!!! I was only using about 2. Sometimes only 1. Good to know!

Temp sounds good. I keep swords in 83-85° F with Discus, and they “grumble.” Your temp sounds perfect.

29 gal tall does require a sufficient light throw to be effective. If other plants are fine, the issue is probably lack of nutrients in your substrate. Add tabs.

Sometimes a bit of flow and added air helps plants. This is more of an issue with warmer aquariums.

My cold tanks (room temperature) all do best with plants.

Slow down folks; i don't see an issue here. Looking at the sword plant; it was grown under different conditions than his condition. The new leaf looks quite healthy; the other leaves are the old leaves the plant had when he purchased it. They are melting as the plant adjust to the new environment. As long as new leaves continue to form and are in good condition; i think all is well....

In a low tech tank it can take 6 to 8 months for a plant to fully convert. I have a sword plant that i purchased 8 months ago  that is still converting to my growing environment.

The crispus is a bit more concerning; one immediate problem is that it appears it was planted too deep; the crown should be at or slightly above the substrate level.
