Janoš Bećar Pecaroš Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 I can only guess that the drought is the cause, but my GH skyrocketed to 16°-17°. It used to be around 8°-9°. This happened over one month. I'm not sure if its going to go up still or start going down. KH is steady at 3°, maybe 4°. TDP meter shows 660 ppm in the aquarium. Should I be worried? I got some crushed coral to raise the KH by a degree or two, now I'm hesitant. Nitrate 5, Nitrite 0, Ammonia 0, ph 7.2
GardenStateGoldfish Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 When was the last time you tested the tank? Did you add in anything new or do any work near the tank like drilling a plaster wall? did you add any concrete? if it’s been a long time since the last test it could be old tank syndrome type deal just gradual overtime or maybe the drought in your area could have left the water your adding in harder then normal
Janoš Bećar Pecaroš Posted September 16, 2022 Author Posted September 16, 2022 This is newish tank, few months, so I'm still testing regularly, last time just before I posted OP. No plaster or concrete work. It been rising over past month, so i tested the tap too. Its 20°. I live in north St. Louis county, we get water from Missouri river which is pretty munch non existent. It's the lowest I've seen in 22 years I live here. Should i buy some distilled water for my next water change?

To cute the gh down you can use distilled water but I’d normally strongly recommend this because while your gh is high something else may be low and adding distilled can lead to a deficiency somewhere you not testing for, are the fish distressed in the high gh and does your tap match the tank gh?
Janoš Bećar Pecaroš Posted September 16, 2022 Author Posted September 16, 2022 Tap is just above the tank, at about 20. I think my neon tetras might be spending more time towards the bottom, but they look healthy and eat like crazy when I feed them.
