jlcrow Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 (edited) I have little white things hoping around on the bottom of one of my tanks. I think they might be water fleas, but I am unsure as they seem to be a lot bigger than the examples I have seen in pictures. Plus they are almost always on the bottom of the tank, not swimming around. I attach a screen capture from a video I took of them. I underline them because they kind of look like small pebbles. I also have a 20 second video, hosted on YouTube, that shows their behavior. I should also note that I have guppy fry and juvenile mollies in the tank and they are not eating these critters. I would appreciate someone confirming these are water fleas, or if not, please help identifying them. Thank you for your time and assistance! John Edited September 15, 2022 by jlcrow
modified lung Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Looks like some kind of ostracod. 1
Biotope Biologist Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 I have read that ostracods can pass through a fishes digestive system completely unharmed. Thus that may be the reason fish tend to avoid them But I third the ostracods ID 1
jlcrow Posted September 15, 2022 Author Posted September 15, 2022 Thank you all for the identification!
