ccurtis
Hey Everyone. I am little stumped on what looks to be some sort of fungus on my angel fish’s tail. I have him it in a quarantine tank and have done a 5 day course of maracyn, and then a 5 day course of ich-x with not really much improvement. It also has not got worse. I put a platy in with it just to see if it would spread, it has not. I added aquarium salt (1tbs per 5 gallons) to the quarantine tank 2 days ago and still haven’t really noticed a change. The fish acts normal and eats fine. Any ideas or thoughts on how I can cure this so it can go back into my display tank? The other fish in my display tank show no signs of illness. Administrators Cory Posted October 25, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 25, 2020 To me it looks like cysts and not fungus, but that could just be the pics. I'd do 1 tablespoon of salt per 2 gallons for a few weeks since it's in QT.

ccurtis
@Coryits been a week with no change. The spots haven’t got bigger, but I haven’t seen any improvement either. Should I continue to quarantine? Or do you think he can go back in the main tank? He’s been in quarantine for over month. Ran the med trio for two weeks and he’s been in salt two weeks. Any other thoughts?
Administrators Cory Posted November 5, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 5, 2020 Most likely just cysts. So unlikely it would be contagious.
ccurtis
Thanks @Cory. I’ll finish out the week and then move him back. Glad you don’t think it’s contagious. I concur as I have been searching the internet and everything I find about cysts and lymphocysts say the same. Just wanted a second opinion before I took the chance of moving him back to the main tank. Thanks for all you do to help us out and sharing your experience and knowledge!
