I am currently working with a dirt mix with fluorite sand pool filter sand capped with a pool filter sand x fluorite black sand mix for my crypt tank. This is my second try with this mix and I like it so far but need longer testing and I feel like age beats anything for the most part

It must be the Root Tabs, as one surprise so far is how much better the Baby's Tears look in the Nerm tank. I couldn't fit all of them in the standard photo:

The lighting is the same in all 3 aquariums so that rules out lighting as a differential.

I am always looking for any differences in the 3 aquariums. I found one. The Dirt tank is the only one that has any staghorn algae. It isn't much but here it is.

It looks worse in closeup, and I could get rid of it in heartbeat, but I am going to leave it and see what happens.

That swordtail in the photo pecks at it all the time.

@Daniel is this experiment still going? This is one of my favorite threads on the forum.

I had 2 predictions when you said you were going to do this experiment. 1 was that the dirted tank would have the early advantage and be the first to show signs of growth/have the fastest growth early on. 2 was that long term the dirted and nerm tanks would be roughly equal.

My first prediction was wrong, but if the experiment is still running I'd be interested to see if my second prediction held up. I will say though at first I didn't realize only the nerm tank would be getting ferts dosed in the water column which I think gives the nerm tank a big advantage.

I haven’t heard from @Daniel in months. Anyone know if he’s ok?

Streetwise may know, since they’re both moderators and may talk more behind the scenes. I know that Daniel’s main job is a honeybee queen breeder, which is very seasonal. So it could just be a busy time of year.

I am okay! But I haven't been on the forum hardly at all recently. I am getting all the beehives ready for winter and that eats up all of my time. I will have more time for the fish and the forum when the weather turns cold. I appreciate that I was worried about.🙂

Good to hear you are doing well, talk to you when all the bees are protected for the winter.
