Minnow Fry

Now I'm the paranoid parent!!! I've had this 7gal spawning tank set up for about 3 months, changing mops every couple of days. After having no action I thought maybe my minnows were still to young so I have been ignoring it. Today something caught my eye and sure enough there were fry. I checked the nitrates and they were at 80. I changed about a gallon of water and plan to do the same tomorrow to slowly get them down to 20ppm. I am feeding rapashy community powder.

Thoughts?

Feed them greenwater if you can, infusoria, spirulina power, community flakes ground up in mortar and pestle. Most of it will float on top and they won't touch it, but it will start to drop through the water where they will get it if it falls within a 1/4 inch in front of them. If you can raise live food, that's best. Small daphnia....in fact if you can move the adults out, you can dump a small daphnia culture in there and the fry once large enough will only be able to feed on the baby daphnia but the adults will be safe to keep reproducing.

I've fed mine Repashy powder and Hikari first bites for dry foods. I agree with @Scot, try to get some live food cultures going if you can. I think the movement of the live foods really triggers their feeding response. If you can get a green water tank going, just toss the fry in until they grow big enough to eat baby brine shrimp. Let us know if you want to know how to get some of these live cultures going.
