Adding crushed coral to increase water hardness

Recommended Posts

I am thinking if adding crushed coral to increase the water hardness of my 75G planted tank (w/ c02 injection), for the benefit of mu snails specifically. Tank is stocked with tiger barbs, a couple cherries, many mystery snails and an opaline gourami.

Question is: Is there any harm in just adding the crushed coral immediately, or should I add slowly or does it matter?

When adding it to your substrate, we recommend starting with 1 pound of crushed coral per 10 gallons of water. The lower your pH is, the faster it dissolves, so you may need to replace the crushed coral every 6 to 12 months to keep remineralizing your water.”

I literally just sprinkle it in ✌🏻
