Tuscany Heather
Hello, I’m working on raising up my first group of Blue Rams and hope to breed them when they mature. I have pretty hard water here in Texas and just purchased a RO system, I’m trying to get the right mix of GH/KH/TDS and hoping someone would share their buffer formula with me. Goal GH: 80ppm KH: 80-100ppm Ph: 6.
anewbie
You want TDS below 80; though they can actually breed in TDS up to 140 (i think). I have TDS 120; gh 6 kh 3 ph 7.0 and they did successfully hatch eggs in my tap water without ro; but a little softer and it will be more reliable. For conversion to ppm use 17.86; so my water a marginally harder but kh is a bit lower. My tap ph is around 7/7.1. - I.e. Their is a good chance they will successfully breed in your tap water but it wouldn't hurt if you dilluted by 30% or 50%. - Btw they will lay eggs in any sort of water; but if the water is too hard they won't hatch. Also it takes a young couple 2 to 5 tries to get the eggs fertilize so the first time they breed the eggs might not hatch even if the water is suitable.
