Guppy Cleft Lip+Concave Head

Hey all,

Attached are my new pair of female guppies that arrived in the mail. It seems one has a cleft lip and they both seem to have a bit of an inward dent on their head. They have their fins clamped but they look to be getting better. They started to eat today. I also started treatment with kanaplex today as a safety precaution because of the clamped fins. What do you guys think about this. I doubt they have hole in the head but what explains these “deformities”? Will I be able to breed them or will these deformities have a high change to be passed to the next generation?

The indent is an area they store fat and should fill back in once fed up she looks just a tad underweight or just the shape of the head. I have seen both. Neither is of great concern.  I have a little boy with a cleft lip. He lives a full life in a boy only tank. I watch him to see that he eats…and he eats well he is almost a year old with this lip. I do not allow him to pass on his genes because I was never certain if it came from genetics or an injury.

I have heard someone speak of a fish I think it was a livebearer develope something akin to lockjaw and I can’t remember if the fish could eat or not.  I think it was @Hobbit

I will get photos of my boy and post for you.

Love his little waddle he does while swimming

He was a throwback to the OG dad with over long fins that are not great for swimming. His are actually longer than the OG dad.  I kept breeding to short fin different genetics blue girls until the fins were short enough the swim straight and tails don’t droop when they get older.  But yeah he is a cutie pie.  Nibbles food from my fingers and eats live BBS from a pipette

I don’t think it was me? I’ve had some fish with jaw deformities, and at least two of them weren’t able to eat well enough to thrive. ☹️ But I also have lots of ricefish that just look a bit funny, and they seem perfectly happy! I don’t breed them though.
