Annette Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 Hi, I'm looking for opinions on what these fish are. The one pictured alone in the bare tank is a bit larger. The other circled fish I was guessing could possibly be Ruby Tetras? Thanks for your time!
Colu Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) The second one looks like a ruby tetra to me the first one looks like a juvenile barb am not sure what species Edited July 26, 2022 by Colu 1
Flumpweesel Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 the scale definition on the first pic made me think Barb. 1
Biotope Biologist Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) Top pic is a spotted barb Barbodes binotatius 2nd pic is either tail-light tetra Hemigrammus ocellifer or a gold tetra Hemigrammus rodwayi. The tail light tetra will also have a spot on it’s lateral line behind the eye whereas a gold will not. The caudal fin spot is lined by white on the gold tetra and yellow on the tail spot. I want to say gold tetra but the pic is blurry it’s hard to see definition and color Edit: Google for some reason has like 7 different species of tetra and 1 rasbora listed as a ruby tetra. These pictures are not accurate. accurate photo, source: fishbase.org Edited July 26, 2022 by Biotope Biologist 3 1
Annette Posted July 27, 2022 Author Posted July 27, 2022 Thanks all! Yeah sorry the photo quality is so bad, I was snapping away on my phone. I ordered "assorted fish" and wasn't sure about some of the species! Upon further inspection I do think the colors look slightly different from the ruby tetra.
Biotope Biologist Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Looks like a gold tetra to me! Enjoy your inhabitants. “Assorted fish” is new to me and seems kind of fun! 1
Annette Posted July 27, 2022 Author Posted July 27, 2022 Thank you! I would never have guessed. I'm enjoying all of them so far!
