Before and After 20gal moss tank and loach

Recommended Posts

I was trying to get thing caught up on things and working on something special about pores space. Here are different pictures of the 20 gallon moss tank. I did add a few small pieces moss from the yard. Moved a big Cory to the 75 and moved two small corys from the grow out I took some videos of the moss trees I make a few months back.
Stock:

Ghosts shrimp; removed about 12-18 to the “project tank” top secret.

Neon tetras(9) they are getting older and once and awhile one disappears.

Yellow blue eye brittlenose(2) very small about ..75” give or take. One has an eye on the tale. One black spot.

Panda Cory; small, “moving on up”

Sterbai Cory; also made the move today.

Black loaches(2)

Snails( metric ton) I don’t mind them in this tank. It’s mostly ramshorn the Malaysian snails are getting less and less the thicker the moss on the bottom grows. The ramshorn do a great Ty job in this tank it is in the window and I keep the curtains open. It’s where I grow some of the plants I can’t get to grow well in other tank I start in here and move the nice size healthy plant to other tanks. The same with moss trees. I thinking of adding some  kuhli loaches because I get, some view that most people what do you think about a

That coming along great. I love how the loach is “hiding”  I totally can’t even see him. 🤣 reminds me of my puppy that used to “hide” under the glass coffee table whenever he chewe something he was not supposed to.

There are 2 in there. One seems to stay there most of the time. I never saw them in a different tank and I thought this tank would be good after I started the moss in there. I see them now more than ever. They are way more active than I ever thought. Sometimes I “see” them without seeing them. They swim under the moss all day and rest in that spot. I getting the necessary things done, just the cosmetic things are getting done as much as I like. That tank is maybe my favorite and I have tried to show it off but the pictures never do it justice .

The moss you added, it's got dirt and stuff on it or was it on a piece of wood or something previously?  Very interesting stuff.

The Moss is right of the ground in the yard. So that’s is some dirt( mostly sand as the soils here is sandy). The moss you can see here has been the there for a longer time about 2 years. I started with about the size of a 2” square. I never intended this to be a moss tank but I don’t grow to many plants well. There is an undergravel with some eco complete not much. I saw a video on YouTube and if it’s on YouTube it’s true right, and the went out in the woods and got moss that was growing on the ground but it was way different that any here. So I tried a little and it grew. I have added it a about the 2” squares for some time. Now I knock off the dirt and put it in with the weeds that are growing out of it. I’ll take a picture and post it tomorrow of my moss in the yard and you will understand how long it took. The stuff on is some bug bites food and a lot of small Malaysian Snails. Sorry I’m not doing a great job explaining. I have a send “moss” tank that is a Undergravel with a course .5” black filter and moss that is ground moss but I got it mail from a company in Tennessee. It has two different types of moss they sent. I post those. That tank has the cleanest water. The mos is 6” in places and less in others. I think I have a journal post about it but it has total changed since i updated it. I’m happy to answer any questions because I know that was a mess. I’ll even clean the glass to take better pics.

moss in the yard

Is this moss the same stuff that grows on the north side of trees (you know when your lost in the woods😜) I have some moss back along my fence but never thought about use in an aquarium, very interesting. Nice job.

So this is a pic of the small patch of moss that is in the yard. It’s only and 3sqft. I build the moss from small pieces like the one bare area next to my thumb.7C0FCDB2-69D2-4268-BF2A-2510E0180767.jpeg.a921eeceba8aa2674cb6761e041c0d24.jpegAs everyone can see it’s not an Idealic spot in a pristine forrest. That I saw in the video on YouTube the moss came from beautiful forrest. It is probably very similar or the same type as your fence. I just knock the dirt off a little and put it in the tank. I at first I pulled the weeds with tweezers. Now I just pull the biggest weeds. Some grow a little but the fish and shrimp tend to eat them. There are some “weeds” that tend to grow submerged well. Sedges grow pretty well. Once I get a chance I will clean the glass and try to get some good pictures of the whole tank.

Yes the tank was mostly full of the hard to see stuff in the back. That went brown and I think has died back. It was a different tank in January when I put it in all the growth has been since beginning of may and the other moss that I though show up dead started to really grow. The panda corys really do well breeding in the moss. Angels breed anywhere. I sounder if the moss in the back is going to come back if it’s seasonal. I know the name of the moss that failed.
