FyaNyan
Hi. I built an aquarium stand with 2x4 pine wood. Can I paint it with normal indoor house paint and a clear coat finish? Or will this be toxic for fish? It’s not touching the water. Just the bottom rim of the tank.
Patrick_G
Totally safe. Give it a good sanding and a coat of primer if you want a nice living room friendly look. Post some pics! 😁
Wrencher_Scott
When it's dry you are good to go. Pics would be cool
Cheryl P.
Yup, we've done that before. I like to use a couple of good coats of polyurethane inside and out to protect it. Works great!

FyaNyan
Just an update… Finished the stand last week! Here’s a picture of before painting and after. Sanded, primed, painted, and poly-something. Please excuse the messy cords, I’m still rearranging things in my room for the best layout, but I thought I’d show you guys how things are looking. Also, as a side note, the fake-coral decor is just holding the wood down to waterlog it. This is not the final setup! I’m planning on filling the whole thing with anubias and flipping the coral thing backward so it looks kinda like a tree stump. I’m going for a woody-planty look. Anubias seems like the gold plant for my fish, as he’s completely ignoring it. No snacks. Edited July 17, 2022 by FyaNyan
