Tanked
Did you build one? Did it work reliably over time? I mentioned in another topic that someday I would like to have an Avatar tank with a sand fall. I have built several with varying degrees of success. None of them have worked well enough to put in a planted tank with fish. There are a lot of videos of these falls used in an aquascapes, and videos on how to make them. They all seem to be missing some key information about individual components. What size water/air pump are you using to move the sand? I'm most likely to use water. Too much or too little flow causes the sand to blow all over the tank, or becomes clogged. Sand that is too coarse or too fine causes the same problems. Like the aquarium itself, balance is important. I'm not big on aquarium toys, but a working sand fall might someday provide some vertical interest in my 65.
pcb09
Following. Seems like such a great concept, looks cool… but seems like it’s probably better in theory than real life practice
Patrick_G
I’ve watched a few fishtubers build these. They look spectacular but usually have lots of maintenance problems. Maybe one day 🙂
Tanked
@pcb09 @Patrick_G Some of those videos are awe inspiring. There is a definite gap between theory and practice. I haven't been able to keep one functioning for more than 4 days with out maintenance of some kind. I think trying to build the sand fall as an add on instead of the main feature has always been my first mistake. The biggest problem has always been keeping all of the sand moving.
