Highwater
Tonight marks my first try with this . I have copied the KFS neon breeding trays method but without the RO water. I think if my results are bad that water hardness is my issue - so for this try its - one pair in 2 gallon trays - so 2 of these with artificial mat to collect eggs? maybe? And live floating plants - set inside empty container and covered with towels for complete darkness - see how it goes 1
Cheryl P.
I'm really interested in seeing your results. I've got some well established neons that I'm considering breeding the same way. KFS made it look rather simple! 😁
Highwater
I felt the same way - The RO unit was my only issue - I have no idea where i can set such a item up in my home I did see a Peat Moss tank setup one that I also may attempt
Highwater
I believe I had one tray with eggs. And the other just a couple happy fish to head back to their tank - My phone camera doesn't seems to want to focus. They're incredibly hard to see. I know these really look like Bigfoot photos - guess a need a camera again. They show up on the tray bottom- and a few stuck to the plastic plants I will see if anything comes from these - I also guess conditioning the breeders these last two weeks inspired mystery snails to leave a clutch last night - so that's a plus
gardenman
Mark's Aquatics on YouTube has a nice video series up on breeding neon tetras. He's bred a ton of different fish and has videos on what works for him.
Highwater
Thank you - Very Helpful - I was wanting to do a 5gallon peat method - his video is excellent
Cheryl P.
I am thinking of just buying some RO water from one of my local fish stores. It goes for about $1.50 a gallon around here. Since I'm really only going to be playing with small containers at first I figured I'd get like 5 gallons of it to start. That way I don't have to install a unit yet if I don't need it long term. It's nice to see you have eggs already! Good luck with them!
TheSwissAquarist
A good alternative to RO water is rainwater - just saying. I wonder if KFS is on this forum?
Cheryl P.
@Highwater You've inspired me to start with my neons. I just put 3 pairs into containers and started up an infusoria culture. Fingers crossed!
Highwater
I hope yours works better than mine did - never showed single sign of fertility - I plan to try again weekend of the 4th is there a period of time suggested to filter rain water after collection? Scotts Guppy Haven
From all the video's that I have watched for this and cardinal tetra's it seems like the water chemistry is the vital part of having success.
